White Teeth: In Samad's flashback we see his wedding. From Bangladesh, Samad was betrothed to Alsana. When they finally meet on their wedding day she is submissive, pleasing Samad. This is until a drunken man calls out a racist comment. They have twins together despite this. Samid wants to raise them as good Muslims, but this isn't helped by his passionate love affair with their school teacher Poppy Burt-Jones.
